Prof. Vladimir Kopecky and his glass studio

Duration of the exhibition:2 – 29 October 2005 – After 16 years Prof. Vladimir Kopecky (*1931) will end his pedagogical work as head of the glass studio at the Academy for Applied Arts in Prague. In his honour the graduates and students of his studio organized an exhibition with glass objects which were created during his time as head of the glass studio. This exhibition makes obvious the development and the change which took place in the Czech glass scene since the lifting of the Iron Curtain.

Jiřina Žertová – Cross Section

Duration of the exhibition: 10 April – 17 May 2005 – Glasgalerie Hittfeld wants to give you an insight into Jiřina Žertová’s work. She belonged to the glass movement right from the beginning and she has been working with the material glass for meanwhile 50 years. Already in 1957 she draw attention to her work at the Milano Triennal, where she was honoured with the silver medal for her carafe with polished decoration. However, the emphasis of Jirina Zertova’s artistic work has always been and will always be the painted glass.

Cross section: 1988 – 2003

Duration of the exhibition: 23 June – 6 March 2004 – The anniversary exhibition “Cross-Section” will present old and recent works of those contemporary Czech glass artists, who have been exhibiting their objects in Glasgalerie Hittfeld for the past 15 years. Since its beginning in 1988 – at that time the only galery worldwide which was exclusively specialized in contemporary Czech glass art – Glasgalerie Hittfeld became more and more a meeting point for the top of the Czech glass artists, for experts, collectors and friends of contemporary glass art.

Marketa Silena: Glass Objects and Jewelry

Duration of the exhibition: 16 March – 12 April 2003 – Marketa Silena: “The inspirative source of my activity is glass itself. Searching for structures similar to nature merged into strict geometric forms by avoiding highly polished, aggressive surfaces or loud colours. I am interested in mysterious things, unsaid this remains unspoken til the end. I try to transform this by using dimmed shades and mat surfaces.”

Ilja Bilek and his glass studio

Duration of the exhibition: 15 September – 19 October 2002 – Since 1989 the artist Ilja Bilek has been regularly exhibiting his splendid glass sculptures at Glasgalerie Hittfeld. His sculptures stand out for their strict geometry as well as for their precise processing. Since 1996 Ilja Bilek has been leading the glass studio at the Institute of Applied Arts and Design of the Univercity J.E. Purkyne in Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic). Some of Ilja Bilek’s students presented their own objects during this exhibition.

Martin Velišek: Painted Glass / Drawings

Duration of the exhibition: Spring 2000 – Dear friends of Czech glass art, the 20th century was a period which was considerably marked by the material glass (e.g. architecture, science and technology). Considering this whole connection it is quite understandable that this material also found its artistic direction. The merit of the glass art’s development belongs among others especially to the Czech glass art.
