10 Years Glasgalerie Hittfeld

received the stamp of approval from society and they trust their interests to their own judgement. For people like this my gallery does not have to be in a city.

Glass art, as we understand it today from the effects of your efforts, is a young art form. What exactly is glass art - are we talking about an offshoot of sculpture, of painting or has it earned it place in a category of its own?

Glass art is a young phenomenon in the art world. It began four decades ago. It was recognised that glass - just as much as any other material - is an expressive medium. And art is an expressive medium - a communication which is possible in every kind of material.
It is in particular the Czechoslovakian glass artists who, not least of all because of their unique training, are also excellent sculptors, painters of graphic artists - in short, an excellent example.

In that case the prejudice that glass art should rather be defined as a handicraft is not true, is it?

Glass has been known of for hundreds of years as an aesthetic material rather than a valuable utility object. This concept is deeply rooted within us.

Since glass is still young as a direction in art and since there are only a few galleries which deal with glass art in a responsible way, the observer does not have many opportunities to grapple with the develop- ments and the content of glass art.
