The Artist - Jan Fisar

It is not only the face of political, economic and social procedures that has been changed by the hectic development in the Czech Republic since the revolution, but also the face of creative procedures and, along with them, possibilities concerning artists themselves.

Freedom of expression, free contact with foreign countries and, last but not least, a chance to confront oneself with the world market of arts, has tested the powers of individual artists in a new, often unexpected way.

Many had to understand that their creation could not do without the crutch of polictics (no matter whether official or under-
ground) that their expression is shallow, uninteresting and unwordly without it.

Others, on the contrary, have developed their talent, so far suppressed for different reasons.

In these conditions, Jan Fisar (*1933), a Bohemian sculptor and glass artist, ranks among those who have recently reached their life and creative peak.

Jan Fisar is a self-made dynamic creator, whose human and creative nature includes antipodes of all qualities - both drama and harmony, emotion and reason, extroversion and introversion, play and conception, pedantry and bohemianism, boyishness and, perhaps, maturity.

Glasgalerie Hittfeld (near Hamburg) was founded in 1988. From the beginning the gallery solely specialized in Czech contemporary glass art. The artists who exhibit in this gallery belong to the leading Czech glass artists and enjoy a worldwide reputation.
